CARE GUIDE

CARE INFORMATION FOR YOUR LEATHER GOODS AND SHOES.

Our leather goods are designed to stand the test of time - but some care always helps. It's important to show some respect to those you love, we've listed some tips below.

COWHIDE IS NATURAL.

Cowhide is a naturally stain resistant and repellant material. If cleaning is necessary, spot clean with a damp cloth. Never submerge any leather products in water. For an extra bit of protection in those wet months, a light spray of leather protector will do the job. We also sell it here.

Initial shedding may occur around the edges where the hide has been cut. This will cease over time.

LEATHER TRIMS.

Our leather trims are hardy for day to day use and can tolerate rain. If you wish, you can apply a protective leather spray.  Spot clean with a damp cloth if necessary.

SUEDE.

Comb with a suede brush in a single direction and then spray with a suede protector, preferably one that is eco-friendly. Comb in the opposite direction and spray again. Repeat. You know the drill by now. You could purchase our Suede Kit to make it super simple.

THE IMPORTANT STUFF ON OUR COWIDE LEATHER.

The majority of our products are made from naturally tanned Brazilian cowhide leather. This choice is one of our driving principles. We love working with these beautifully natural hides - but we also love that the process supports a more sustainable cycle. Sit tight, we have important facts right here.

Leather products treated with natural vegetable tannins are biodegradable and can be easily discarded at the end of their natural life.

We work with two very reputable tanneries in New Zealand and Brazil. Our leathers are by-products of these country’s strong, established and well-regulated beef export industries. The cruelty free tanning methods we employ minimise the production of waste and volatile compounds.

Both tanneries hold Leather Working Group awards for their sustainable and responsible environmental business practices. They also conform to the ISO and REACH certifications.

We tan using the age-old-original tanning methods, chemical free. Many of the substances used during the tanning process are recovered, recycled and reused. Our leathers do not contain any toxic substance such as azo-dyes, nickel, PCP or chrome VI.
